MISSY MAGAZINE

www.missy-magazine.de

MISSY is a magazine for young women that reports on pop culture, politics, and style with a feminist slant. It was founded at the start of 2008 by Sonja Eismann, Stefanie Lohaus, and Chris Köver in Berlin. In February 2008, MISSY won the Evolution Contest organized by the online platform Hobnox, using the 25,000 euros prize money to secure the future of the project. The first issue of MISSY appeared in October 2008 with a print run of 15,000. In the mid term, the magazine will go from the current four to six issues a year.

MISSY MAGAZINE is produced and published by a team of women, describing itself as a magazine that reports on “outstanding women artists who make music, shoot films, and take photographs, and women activists who save the world or are remarkable in other ways. We write about crafting and cooking, but also queer pornography and organizations campaigning for safe abortions. We want to talk honestly about sex—hetero and homo sex, hot and boring sex, and sex that doesn’t happen.” And MISSY aims to do this from a position “that calls the status quo into question, constantly, with a smile.” For there’s still a great deal to talk about and change on the way to an egalitarian society: “Feminism is passé? We don’t think so.”
